About this listing
About this space
A rare opportunity to stay in a truly beautiful period home in Kippford, one of the most beautiful villages in the region.
Directly on the banks of the estuary with spectacular views, the house can easily accommodate up to 10 guests with spacious, traditionally styled rooms oozing with character and period features.
The large mature gardens and spectacular scenery are perfect for the summer months with the house itself the ideal cosy setting for a magical festive getaway or winter break.
The space
Arrive in Kippford and you will drive along the most charming winding road on the banks of the estuary where you will discover Thornleigh.
A period Arts & Crafts house built in the 1920s, Thornleigh sits in an elevated position overlooking the estuary to take full advantage of the spectacular views (on a clear day it is possible to see the Lake District across the Solway Firth!)
On arrival, you will find enough space on the private driveway for up to 4 cars and will be greeted by beautiful, mature gardens.
On the ground floor you will find the spacious, fully equipped kitchen and breakfast area, large sitting room with sun lounge, snug/TV room and downstairs cloakroom with WC.
Climb the stairs with stunning original banisters, to be greeted with a large, midway landing that has two absolutely charming and cosy reading nooks, complete with a selection of books these are the perfect hideaways to enjoy a glass of wine and a good read and are spaces that children just adore and will quickly will adopt as their own!
Moving up to the first floor here you will find all four bedrooms and the main shower room.
The master bedroom has it’s own en-suite bathroom, sofa and small table and chairs strategically placed to make the most of the breathtaking views. Bedroom 2 also looks out toward the estuary whilst bedrooms 3 & 4 have views to the rear and side of the house.
Thornleigh really is a special home with a truly traditional, period feel and we can’t wait to welcome you!
Guest access
Guests will have access to the entire house other than a small locked room on the first floor which is used to store a few of our own personal items.

Hi, I’m Charlotte, the Managing Director for Pass the Keys® Dumfries & Galloway. I’m a born and bred ‘Doonhamer’ and have a lifelong passion for not only Scotland as a whole, but for my beautiful home region of Dumfries & Galloway. I have travelled the world, working at the very top end of customer service providing travel assistance to the world’s Royal families, diplomats, ministers and celebrities. I then joined the ‘luxury travel market’ project, managing private travel arrangements for both individual VIPs and multinational companies. The next natural step for me was to break into the short term let market, the experience and professionalism that Pass The Keys has to offer made it an easy and obvious choice to become a PTK franchisee.

Craig Dow 23/12/2024This is my second visit to this property so that alone should give you confidence. Arrived, everything was clean as expected, key was in a key box with a code provided before. Great views and not too onerous house rules. Plan to book again. ... Read full reviewClose

Pierce amanda 04/09/2024Lovely stay. This is our second year at this beautiful house. It has so much character and such a lovely location. We have fond memories . Just some areas of the house looking a bit tired in places and some cooking utensils had been put back dirty . But this won't stop us from returning again. Some areas looking a bit tired and some guest had put utensils back dirty need to be checked prior to guests comming in ... Read full reviewClose

Heather Burnett 05/06/2024Fabulous location with stunning views. We loved the property and its location. Some reviews have mentioned it’s dated but we loved that and the olde world feel. My granddaughter thought it looked like the Pevensey house from Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe 😊 Beds and pillows were so comfy. Views from first floor front bedrooms over the estuary were amazing. We had everything we needed and would return in future.. Carpet in downstairs toilet is a no no. It was badly stained even although toilet itself was clean. It needs a bit of linoleum which would be way more hygienic! Carpet in large lounge and sun room also needs replaced as staining really detracts from the character of this beautiful old house. ...
