About this listing
A first floor apartment in a recently renovated Victorian townhouse. A real character property with sash windows, original features, high ceilings and modern underfloor heating.
Located just 1 km from the centre of historic York, close to the leafy, green open space of the Knavesmire, and the renowned York racecourse.
Entrance is via the grand communal building. (Family- friendly storage facilities where there is space to leave a pushchair or pram).
There are only four apartments in this beautifully converted Grade II listed building. We are located on the first floor, and once inside, the apartment is on one level, with the exception of a step into the kitchen.
Our spacious entrance hall opens up to most rooms; a contemporary open plan living dining room (leading into the kitchen), two double bedrooms, bathroom and utility room with additional toilet.
Our living space is a collection of bright & modern living with Scandinavian influences, together with elegant original period features. Beautiful bay windows bring in natural light to fill up this spacious social space. Bespoke Victorian window shutters blend in seamlessly and bring benefit in retaining warmth in cooler seasons. The mantel centrepiece has been stripped back to its original marble and and a working gas fire set underneath. To the inside of this room is a hidden well which was used by servants of the household back in the Edwardian and Victorian era. Our TV is a Smart TV with Freeview and streaming applications. We have a large velvet sofa which comfortable seats 4 or more and a separate armchair. There is seating for up to 6 around the dining table, which also works well as a work space.
One step down from the living dining room leads into our fully equipped kitchen. Appliances include use of a fridge-freezer, washer-dryer, gas hob and oven. Amongst the smaller appliances are a kettle, toaster, microwave, Illy coffee machine and Bluetooth Bose speaker. There’s also a 5 lath wooden pulley clothes airer as an eco friendly alternative to using the dryer. Views from the kitchen and bay windows look out onto The Mount, where some of the architecture dates back as far as the early 1800s.
The master bedroom has a super king size bed, wardrobe storage, a chest of drawers and an armchair. The fireplace, although not in use, has been restored back to its former glory. A second Smart TV is in the master bedroom with Freeview and streaming options.
The second double bedroom has a king size bed, hanging storage and vanity table. Another original cast iron fireplace is present for decorative purposes only. Bed linen and towels are provided for all guests.
In the bathroom is a roll top bath, corner shower unit, countertop basin and toilet. There’s plenty of storage in the cabinet unit. You won’t expect it, but one wall of the bathroom is adjacent to the old well which runs through the building!
Coming off the main entrance of our apartment, we have a separate utility room with a second toilet too, as well as washing facilities.
There is no outside space however the Knavesmire, an open leafy public space, is a couple of minutes walk away across the road. We can provide on street parking for one car. Please read ‘Other things to note’ for further information on how to obtain parking in advance of your booking.
My property is professionally cleaned and the linen/ towels are replaced with freshly laundered supplies between each stay. We offer remote access with easy self check-in and 24/7 guest support should you need any assistance during your stay.
This is our home part of the year. Guests will have access to the whole property, however there will be some locked storage spaces where we keep our personal belongings.
Other things to note:
PARKING
For those who need parking facilities, the street is permit only however I am able to provide a visitor parking permit for 1 x car for each night of your stay (subject to availability.) Permits last until 10am the following day.
Please request parking in advance of your stay as this needs to be arranged by my property management team with prior notice.
For bookings which are longer than 1 week, the parking facility is limited and also subject to availability, so please make sure you enquire about this facility when making your booking.
CHECK IN / CHECK OUT
Check-in time is after 3pm and check-out time is before 11am. A £30 charge will be requested if guests check themselves in early without permission or if guests do not check out on time as this will cause disruption to my cleaner’s schedule.
Please note that you will be charged £100 for lost keys, so please be careful with them.
TRAVEL COT
A travel cot and mattress are available to borrow upon request, subject to availability, and at an additional cost of £20. Please ensure you message before hand so that I can arrange for the installation. Guests will need to bring their own cot bedding, including a bottom sheet. (I am afraid highchair requests cannot be met).
IMPORTANT: On behalf of our host at Pass the Keys, we require guest verification facilitated by Truvi (Previously called Superhog). Upon confirming your booking, Truvi will contact the lead booker via a secure link, providing detailed instructions for the verification process.
The online verification requires a government-issued photo ID and a credit or debit card. During this process, you may choose between a refundable GBP 500 deposit (plus GBP 10 transaction fee currency equivalent) or purchase a non-refundable damage waiver of GBP 40 (currency equivalent) to cover potential damages during your stay.
Once the verification process is successfully completed, check-in information will be provided. If you opted in for a deposit, this will be refunded via credit/debit card after your stay, subject to an inspection of the property.
We unfortunately are experiencing issues with the shower’s hot water turning cold relatively quickly. The issue requires significant work to be done, including re-piping. We intend to do this in January. In the meantime, we would ask guests for their kind understanding. To mitigate the issue, we can suggest leaving the sink cold water running for full while using the shower. This will help. If however, you need a longer hot shower, we would suggest using the bath.
Thank you for your understanding. We appologise for any inconvenience.
