About this listing
About this space
Come and stay In this impressive apartment, just off Whitstable high street.
The space
There’s ‘in Whitstable’ and ‘IN Whitstable’. This flat really couldn’t be more central or more fully embody the character and history of this seaside town. Originally the top floor of an old bakery, the flat is accessed by a little alley that’s quintessential Whitstable (though sadly without a picturesque name like nearby ‘Squeezegut Alley’!). A familiar feature of the High Street to locals, the distinctive shape of the roof can be seen in old black-and-white photos of the High Street and the slightly sloping ceilings of the two super-comfy bedrooms.
The historic nature of the property gives it real character, as you’ll see from the huge windows, the funny little nook (we think of it as the ‘reading nook’!) in the sitting room and the wooden floorboards. To complement those little details, we’ve given it a contemporary refresh with top-end furnishings and decorative touches. Our favourite is the wonderful seascape in the sitting room, by artist Bruce Williams, whose studio is just a few doors down the road.
Perhaps our favourite time here is first thing in the morning, when the light floods the flat, and you can hear flocks of sparrows twittering around the rooftops. After enjoying the superb pastries from the nearby bakeries and perhaps some Kentish cherries, the window seat under the massive bay window is the ideal perch for people-watching: watch Whitstable wake up as daily dog walkers say a cheerful good morning to families on their way to the beach.
When you can tear yourself away from the view, all of Whitstable is on your doorstep, with the town’s best cafes, restaurants, local shops selling artisan produce just steps away, and the beach only a 5-minute walk. Take a short stroll down the High Street to get there, or find your own, more creative route via the tens of little alleys that wiggle their way through Whitstable.
And at the end of the day, maybe after a walk along the seafront to Herne Bay or Seasalter, a day trip to Canterbury, a bracing swim in chilly waters, a spot of seal-watching or a relaxed afternoon at a local pub, the flat is a cosy haven of squashy sofas and fluffy blankets, to settle down, discuss your day, and grab a book to read. If you’re cooking, never fear: the kitchen Is exceptionally well-equipped – we love cooking and maybe you do too! If not, the award-winning pizzeria and a top-deck fish-and-chippie are just moments away. And what better way to finish the day better than up the twisty stairs to the very comfiest of beds

Mark Kelly 25/06/2024Very good location with great potential. Just need to sort out the small detail which may put people off.. Right in the centre of town and very convenient for everything. Very comfortable property.. Alleyway entrance not very attractive but stagnant water from leak beside the entrance was very unhealthy and quite smelly. The shower design needs looked at as water didn’t drain properly. Really need to look at WiFi alternatives as connectivity was very bad. If someone was staying and had to work, as I was, it’s impossible. ... Read full reviewClose
