City Guide: Top 10 Things To do In Twickenham

Twickenham, a lovely leafy area on the banks of the River Thames, is best known as the home of English rugby. But it is much more than that, as we aim to show you here.

There are some amazing things to do in the area, we’ve listed below, a few of our favourites.

Twickenham Stadium and world rugby Museum.

If you are a rugby fan, this is a must see. You can take guided tours of the stadium and explore the world rugby museum, which showcases the sport’s rich history.

Eel Pie Island.

The fabulous eel pie Island is located in the middle of the river Thames. It is a haven for wildlife and local artists and artisans who call this lovely island home. With a bohemian feel and surrounded by nature, this is a beautiful and inspiring spot. You can take the footbridge from Twickenham Riverside.

Orleans House Gallery

This beautiful building on Twickenham Riverside is home to an eclectic art collection and hosts many events, from family fun afternoons, to evening talks and receptions. The stables cafe and courtyard is a hidden gem.

Enjoy a stroll along Twickenham Riverside. Perhaps take the ‘ferry’ to Ham House, on the opposite ban. Enjoy the cafes and restaurants dotted along the route

Marble Hill House

This beautiful house and garden is run by English Heritage. Take a step back in time in the house, to learn about the rich history of the area. You can wander freely around the grounds. Be sure to check out the Grotto.

Strawberry Hill House

This Gothic Revival villa features unique architecture and beautifully landscaped gardens.

York House Gardens

These public gardens are known for their serene environment and the impressive ‘Naked Ladies’ statues. It is the ideal place for a leisurely stroll amongst nature.

Farmer’s Market

Twickenham Farmer’s Market is a fantastic place to pick up locally produced goods, every Saturday morning in Holly Road.

The White Swan

The White Swan pub is a Twickenham landmark. With a jetty out on to the Thames and it’s own ‘beach’, this is a stunning spot during the warmer months.

The River Crane and Crane Park

Slightly off the beaten track, Crane Park is a fantastic walkway of several miles, that stretches the length of Twickenham and beyond. Admire the wildlife and perhaps spot the resident kingfishers.
